4-Day Bangkok Budget Travel

Thailand is one of the budget-friendly countries I have visited in Asia. Communication is easy since most people can speak English. The food is fantastic too, especially if you like a little bit of spice. In this blog, I will share with you my 4-day budget travel in Bangkok.

Preparing for Bangkok Budget Travel

Booking for a Flight

I booked the ticket on promo about 4 months before the departure date which was November. I choose November because the climate and temperature are comfortable between 25 c-30 c.

Finding a hotel

I searched all the hotel and property rentals in strategic locations and compared the prices. I have finally decided to book a room in R9 hotel on Airbnb.

Preparing the Itinerary

I used google map drop pin to locate tourist sites and important landmarks like hospitals, train stations. This is very helpful because I can plan how long is the travel time, how far, and how many sites I can fit to visit in one day. I also downloaded my favorite travel apps.

Day 1 Budget Travel

Arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport 10 AM

We arrived in Bangkok around 10am in Thailand time. After the immigration process and bag claim, I searched for Klook inside the terminal to claim my WiFi. It’s a huge multi-story airport so I got lost looking for the Klook booth. I ended up buying my own WiFi just beside the airport arrival entrance.

Check-in at R9 Hotel Via AirBnb

I arranged the airport pick-up thru R9 Hotel. It’s a very small hotel but it’s cozy and clean. You can also wash and iron your clothes at the pantry. The downside is that they don’t have an elevator. I felt awful having the lady carry one of my luggage. It does not include breakfast but there are many shops to eat nearby. The main reason why I choose this is because of the location. It’s not a posh area but it is walking distance to all the local shops I need. Just in front of the hotel is 7/11 and a 10-minute walk away is a huge grocery store/ mall where we bought our souvenirs. It is also a 10-minute walk away from the train station. The airport is just 30 minutes away.

Budget / Cost:

  • Hotel – 5,299 pesos for 5 days, 4 night stay
  • Airport Pick -up 700 baht

Jim Thompson House Museum

Since I arrived in the morning, I still had time to visit one place. Using Grab, I went to the Jim Thompson House Museum. It’s basically just a historical house filled with antiques. I personally don’t find the place as interesting as I thought It was. Aside from this place where my photo was taken, taking photos is not allowed inside the house. Tourists are not allowed to bring anything inside even your shoes. They provide free lockers.

  • Entrance Fee: 200 baht

Mueang Boran: The Ancient City

This is the best place in Bangkok for budget tourists like me who wish to tour entire Thailand in 1 day. Yes! This amazing place is a replica of all the major ancient tourist spots in Thailand. This place s huge that’s why you need to take a tram or ride a bike inside. I wish I had my driver’s license with me at that time so I can rent the golf cart. The food is amazing too. You don’t need to go out of Bangkok to visit these amazing historical places:

The Majaraj Pier

After my Ancient City tour, we took a 1-hour Grab ride to Majaraj mall. I found The Marajaj by accident when was looking for a place for dinner with a sunset view. This is a mall with a beautiful garden beside the Chao Phraya River, facing the sunset.

Day 3 Budget Travel

Wat Arun

It is a uniquely designed ancient Buddhist temple. Wat Arun, Wat Pho, and the Grand Palace are near to each other so make sure you plan this all together in one day. You can take a short boat ride to reach the Majaraj Pier on the other side. Since this is a religious place, make sure you wear modest clothes. Shorts and short skirts are not allowed.

Entrance Fee: 100 Baht

This place is known for the Golden Reclining Buddha. Since this is a religious place, make sure you wear modest clothes.

Grand Palace

As the term implies, it is indeed a grand palace. It has emerald warrior statues, golden walls and gigantic pillars. This is clearly a must-see place in Bangkok. You can take photos outside but taking photos inside the palace itself is not allowed.

Damnoen Saduak Float Market

There are many floating markets in Thailand. The one I visited is Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. I bought the tour from Klook. This Floating Market is more than 2 hours away from our hotel in Bangkok. It was a really fun experience because I have never seen a market on a river with floating stores on the side and boats as transportation. Food and souvenir items here are twice the price than that in the city.

Tour Fee: 1,250 php

Train Night Market Ratchada

It is our last night in Bangkok so I decided to go for some souvenir shopping. There are many night markets in Bangkok but this one is just one train ride away from my hotel. It is also popular on the internet because of these photos of shop tents taken from the 4th or 5th Floor of Esplanade Mall parking lot. As for the prices in the night market, It is cheap but the quality is awesome.

Entrance Fee: Free
